Updated Review (05/2013)
On Thursday, May 2nd, I posted up about Free Comic Book Day, and a friend of mine asked me what a good comic shop would be that was kid friendly. Remembering that this location had the kids section in the front, and was fairly close to my friend, I told him that I had someplace I wanted to check, and I would get back with him.
When I stepped into the shop, I will admit that I was a bit stunned. I remembered this shop being, well, rather sparse. Very serviceable, but without much character. Looking back at my write up from 2010, underneath this update, I see that my memory is not very broken. Walking in now, though, it’s like night and day. This shop has gained a personality, and it’s a pretty spiffy personality.
They have re-arranged the sales floor, and it have a very open, welcoming feel. Wood shelves line one side of the store, nicely showing off the trade paperbacks and statues. Toward the back, the shelves also have drawers built in that store the back issues. The other wall has all of the newer comics on the standard wire shelves, as well. The cash register area has been moved from the front of the store, more towards the back, and around behind that is where they keep more comics, and their selection of games.
I had a chance to talk with Ben, the store manager, about how impressed I was with how the store looked, and how good it felt. He let me take some pictures for the blog, we discussed Free Comic Book Day, the Jericho comic book, and the Star Wars exhibit coming to the State Museum, which they were getting some promotional material for. By the time I left, I really started wishing I had the disposable income for a comic book pull list again. I would be happy to have this location as my Friendly Local Comic Shop.
Oh, and my friend? He was very please with them on Free Comic Book Day, and I believe he’ll be heading back in the future. Good job, DTC!
