Many people my age and younger have grown up with those Heroes in a Half Shell. While incarnations have been different, from black and white, gritty comic books, to movies where they aren’t even using swords to cut down members of the Foot Clan, to the current incarnation on Nickelodeon, it seems that almost every group of kids from the 80’s on up have had their own version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. With this in mind, it would be no surprise to me that the newest exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis would be a huge hit, especially as it’s the first to feature this group of pizza eating party dudes.
You might remember, a few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to publish a Sneak Peek article, with renditions of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secrets of the Sewers exhibit. That exhibit officially opened this past Saturday, the 26th, and I was lucky enough to be part of the Blogger and Social Media crew who checked it out, one hour prior to the museum’s opening. So, I checked in, worked my way through walkers for St. Jude, and entered the sewers of New York City.
As I showed in the sneak peek, the exhibit has a bunch of stations, like the Dojo, Donnie’s lab, playing with Mikey, and so on. These exhibits are very true to the 3D renditions I showed a few weeks ago. Kids were having a blast, putting together pipes, or building a bridge, or using the pizza launcher to take out members of the foot. In addition to the Turtle statues in the entryway, there are also pictures of the turtles you can take pictures with, the opportunity to figure out which turtle you were, and there was even a Raph suit from the third live-action movie on display, looking remarkably well for a foam latex piece!
I had the opportunity to check out many of these play and learning areas, but I wasn’t going to take away from the kids who were just enjoying the heck out of them, and having a blast! This is a great exhibit, and I’m hoping to visit with my nephews sometime in here. I really recommend you go, especially if you have little Geeklings of your own. Remember, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is a great museum for the whole family, and there are a lot of really cool things for families to discover while checking out all of the exhibits!
