I’M BACK! And hopefully to stay! Or at least have more regular posts! The end of 2016 was definitely an adventure, but now I’m back on track with 2017, ready to make it great. I had a very nice few weeks off from school and everything, and I used those weeks for some much needed rest. It was during that time that I came up with the idea for this article: YouTube!
I know I’ve mentioned it once or twice on here before, but I watch a lot of YouTube videos. Anytime I’m out walking, or need some background sound, I put on a YouTube video from one of my favorite channels and let it play. With Tony verging more heavily into YouTube this year, I find it fitting to talk about some other YouTube channels I love as well. Let’s get started!
BOOST #1: THE JONTRON SHOW
While the theme for this particular post is YouTube channels, I’m gonna go ahead and point out that all of my boosts today are channels about video games. There are lots of great channels on there that cover a great amount of interesting topics, but it seems that most of the channels I watch always post video game related content. JonTron was one of the first content creators I watched who made videos about games that weren’t Let’s Plays. Every episode of JonTron covers a game (or movie or cartoon, lots of media actually!) or a type of game, and it is formatted as a hilarious, well produced sketch. The show is very review-ish, but I wouldn’t call it a flat out game review. He often goes through showing the ups and downs of the product, all the while making me laugh my butt off. I’ll leave you all with a link to one of my personal favorite JonTron episodes, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts! Also be warned, while I watched Jon as a child, his content isn’t exactly always kid-friendly!
BOOST #2: PEANUT BUTTER GAMER
Peanut Butter Gamer, or PBG as he is affectionately known as, is similar in many ways to JonTron. PBG makes scripted, sketch-based comedy videos about video games and cartoons. However, their comedy styles differ in many ways. I would describe PBG, in my simplest terms, as a goofy guy who plays goofy games. PBG is extremely lighthearted, and is just all around fun to listen too. He’s definitely a mood-booster, and I always find myself smiling when watching a video of his. I’ll link you guys to one of my personal favorite PBG videos now, Top 10 WORST Licensed Games! Unlike Jon, I can say that Peanut Butter Gamer is almost 100% family-friendly! Also, as a little bonus, I’d like to plug his Let’s Play channel, PBGGameplay. In all honesty, PBGGameplay is just an excuse for more PBG, and for that I love it.
BOOST #3: GAME GRUMPS
Alright, this is the big one for me. My absolute favorite, number one YouTube channel is Game Grumps. GameGrumps is a podcast style Let’s Play channel that features Arin Hanson (also known as Egoraptor) and Daniel Avidan (the lead singer of Ninja Sex Party!) as they relax, hang out, tell life stories, make crude jokes, and play video games (Fun Fact: The original co-host with Arin was JonTron, from earlier in this post!). Their videos are uploaded as a series, two-to-three episodes a day, and usually average about 10 minutes each. I’ve been wanting to write about GameGrumps for quite a while now, but I always find explaining it to others doesn’t do it justice. I will link you guys to one of my favorite, and their most popular Let’s Play, Pokemon FireRed. Now, a warning. These guys make dirty jokes, and cuss a lot. That doesn’t bother me, and that doesn’t bother many people I know. But I don’t want it ruining anyone’s enjoyment of the show. These guys are hilarious, and oftentimes relatable, and they are my favorite. Enjoy.
That’s all for this week, folks. It feels good to be back! Like I said at the top (and have said many times in the past), I will be doing my best to pump out posts more regularly, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll see you guys all next week, with my next exciting post!
