Alright, I’m back! After failing to write for the last couple of weeks, I came to a realization: I would often find myself trying to take my thoughts on some media and stretch them out to 600+ words. This….this does not work. Instead of putting out a short, lame article that I wasn’t proud of, I elected not to publish an article at all. I believe I have a solution to all of this: boosting!
What is boosting, you may ask? Well, instead of trying to write a full length article about one thing every week, I’ll write a paragraph or two about three or four things! That way, I won’t have to stretch out my articles until they’re terrible, and I’ll get to talk about all of the current things I love! So, lets go ahead and get started, shall we?
BOOST #1: OVER THE GARDEN WALL
Now yes, I am aware that Tony wrote an article about this oh so long ago (March 23rd, 2015 – ed.), but I really couldn’t help talking about it; I frakking love this show. A ten part miniseries from Cartoon Network, Over The Garden Wall follows two brothers lost in the woods. I won’t give away any more, but I became so emotionally invested in this show the first time I watched it, I couldn’t help but cry for about an hour afterward. I recently re-watched the show while showing it to some of my college friends, and I could feel the tears welling up again. This show really is worth the watch. You can get the whole miniseries on DVD like I did; through Amazon! The show is also available through Amazon streaming services.
BOOST #2: DUNGEONS & DRAGONS 5TH EDITION
This is something I’ve been wanting to write about for a long time, but was never able to put my thoughts into a full-length article. I am a relatively new D&D player; I started playing in 2014 with the release of 5th edition. Now, I know absolutely nothing about previous editions, but from what I’ve heard from others, D&D 5th edition gets rid of a lot of the combat clutter of 4th edition and streamlines all of the math from Pathfinder. As a fun pastime, I’ve been crafting a new campaign setting from the ground up to play with some of my friends. The simple rules of 5th edition allow for total customization, and put an emphasis on role playing. I’ve had countless hours of fun with D&D, and I recommend the 5th edition to any new players. You can pick up the source books and great starter kit through Amazon!
BOOST #3: GEEK & SUNDRY’S SIGNAL BOOST
And now, what gave me this idea in the first place: Geek & Sundry’s Signal Boost! This show is an awesome concept: every Tuesday, the host of signal boost talks about three or four things that they really want to share with others, or “boost”. Every four weeks, the host changes: that way, lots of different people can share their favorite things with other people! I absolutely adore the concept of the show, and it really is the inspiration for my new style of Media Monday reporting. You can check out old episodes of this show on Geek & Sundry’s YouTube channel, and new episodes come out every Tuesday!
Well, there you have it. My first ever boost article, as I will now call them. I think this way of organization is much better suited to my writing style, and it gives me the chance to talk about more than one thing per week. This is how I plan to write my articles from now on. However, if I have a lot of thoughts on one particular thing, I will write a full article on it.
Tune in next week, folks, for my next few things I love!
