I don’t have cable in my dorm, but I watch quite a bit of television. Usually I set the shows to record back home in Kokomo, and watch whenever I go home for a weekend. Television is a wonderful medium for Geeks, and there is no shortage of Geek-centric shows on T.V. right now! Today, I just wanna let out some opinions on some of the shows I’m watching currently. I know there are plenty of Geeky shows out there that I’m not watching, and I plan on giving some of them a shout out at the end, but now, let’s begin!
One show that I try and catch every week is Arrow, on the CW. Arrow is currently on its fifth season, and I have to say; I am definitely loving it. I started to lose interest in the show towards the end of season three, but I kept watching. Season four never really drew me back in; I found the villain Damien Darhk to be a bit, well, lame. But so far, season five is bringing back the Arrow I loved in seasons one and two. So far season five has seen Oliver Queen bring in a new Team Arrow, which is made up of some more obscure DC comics characters such as the stubborn Wild Dog, season four’s eager techie Curtis as Mister Terrific, my personal favorite mystical Ragman, and Young Justice fan-favorite Artemis. The new team dynamic is wonderful, and I look forward to seeing their interactions every week. The new “Big Bad”, Prometheus, is beginning to get interesting, though I’m a little disappointed that he’s just another archer. But so far, season five of Arrow has brought it back to must-watch status for me!
Another show that I try to catch every week is the CW’s The Flash. The Flash is on its third season currently, and I unfortunately don’t have much to say other than it’s been pretty slow. The characters are still my favorite part of the show, and the inclusion of Mirror Master made me ecstatic, albeit his stay was short. Tom Felton’s new character has been entertaining, and I really hope to see more of him throughout. I’m going to keep watching, but so far it just feels like The Flash hasn’t quite found its footing yet. However, my love for the first two seasons has got me hoping it picks up soon!
Another big one for me, personally, has been Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD. Rebels is currently in its third season, and I’m really enjoying it. I have seen a lot of people be very indecisive about Rebels, and there is one thing that I need to make clear: Star Wars Rebels is not Star Wars The Clone Wars. Rebels so far seems to be focused on two things: beefing up the new characters, and expanding the new canon. Season one was heavily about setting up the characters, season two seemed to be mostly about tying up loose ends left over from Clone Wars, and season three so far has been very much about establishing new lore. So far this season, we’ve gotten new insight into holocrons, Mandolorians, and neutral force-users. However, the big hitter for me has been the return of Timothy Zahn’s Grand Admiral Thrawn into the Star Wars canon. He hasn’t done much yet, but his presence definitely looms over the season and the actions of the crew of the Ghost. I can’t wait to see more!
And finally, I want to talk a little bit about one that’s been heavy for everyone, not just Geeks: season seven of The Walking Dead. This is the big one! I won’t get into spoilers (though at this point, everyone probably knows what’s going on), but for comic readers like me, this season has been big on the introductions. We’ve not only gotten the new “Big Bad” Negan and his vampire-bat Lucille, but we’ve also been introduced to one of my favorite characters King Ezekiel. I don’t wanna talk much more about it, but I can say that this will be the season for change, and I cannot WAIT to see more.
Well, there you have it. Just a little insight into my opinions on some shows that I watch. I know that there are plenty of other big Geek shows going on, such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Supergirl, but these are the ones I try and catch every week. Geek T.V. is huge, and just keeps getting bigger. There are lot’s of great shows on currently, and I really recommend all of them. Media, at least for me, is a huge part of being a Geek, and I always look forward to catching these shows every week. Hey, if we didn’t have Geeky media, I wouldn’t have anything to write about!
See everyone next week!
