Let’s get one thing settled before we even begin. I don’t watch a lot of television. I find the medium time consuming because I’m incapable of multitasking while watching something new. I’m also incredibly picky; if a series doesn’t catch my attention immediately, I find it difficult to continue, so don’t step up here with that “it really hits it’s stride halfway through” crap. Not gonna do it. Not even a little.
In short, I’m a joyless shrew when it comes to TV.
That’s not to say I haven’t watched my fair share of terrible television*. I certainly cannot make the claim that I “only watch good TV.” I’ve got my own awful favorites that I love for various reasons, but the fact is I just can’t commit to watching every show that everyone is on about. There’s just not enough time!
So now let us talk about Game of Thrones. More specifically, let’s talk about how I’m not watching Game of Thrones because it’s one of those many shows out right now that I don’t have time for.
*ahem*
I am. Loving. Game of Thrones. I mean, I haven’t seen it, that’s already been established. What I’m loving is everyone’s reactions to Game of Thrones. It’s amazing. You’re collectively losing your shit over something I don’t have time to watch. Not only that, but I haven’t even been able to read it.
While I love reading** I don’t always have time for it, again, due to the multitasking issue. Books suck me in; I binge read like a, like… like a person who binge reads. But I can’t do that all the time, no matter how much I want to. Man, I got stuff to do!
That’s where audiobooks come in. The Husband™ and I have worked out a spectacular audiobook system where we can enjoy the heck out of a story while getting our comic making and illustrating done at the same time. It’s magical. Unfortunately, sometimes we do books separately because you gotta know what happens in the story and us art kids gotta listen to SOMETHING at our day jobs, right? So sometimes… sometimes a book gets listened to without me.
What I’m getting at is that, before all of you started to die internally to the horror that is GoT for my entertainment, I got to experience the same thing at home with The Husband™ and his audiobooks of GoT. The weeping. The screaming. The guttural howling. My horrible shrewd heart couldn’t handle the amount of schadenfreude being thrown around. That’ll learn him to listen to a book without me! Ha ha ha! That’s right, you cry about it!
And I mean, come on, if he’s freaking out that much about a story, rage quitting after every chapter, what on earth would possess me to think “oh! What a delightful time is being had here! I should partake of the same so that I may also wail in torment as if my very soul were being lashed with reeds.”
Yeah, no.
And lo, here I am again, rolling around in a sea of your tears, loving every minute of your pain. It’s… it’s even more delicious when it’s an entire community of people raging about the same thing. Yassss. Weep your dragon tears for me. Sssssssustenance.
…
Yeah, yeah, alright. And because this is a MEDIA MONDAY (patent pending) post, I will now tell you about how to get ahold of this here media. BUT NOT IN TELEVISION FORMAT noooooo, what you need to find is… THE GRAPHIC NOVELS. Yeah, you heard me. Go peep dat shiz at Amazon (Affiliate Links).
GoT: Volume 1 | Volume 2 | Volume 3 | Volume 4
Prequels: The Hedge Knight | The Sworn Sword
* For humor’s sake, I’m going to blame all the horrible shows I’ve watched on The Husband™ because that dude gives absolutely everything a shot. …and by “give it a shot” of course I mean “watch everything to completion no matter how bad it is.”
** I work in a bookstore for crying out loud. I love me some flippin’ books!
