In my opinion, DC owns the television superhero market, with shows like Arrow and The Flash continuing to impress and entertain me. When I heard that there would be a new DC show on NBC, I was intrigued. When I found out it would be called Powerless and be about non-superheroes, I honestly started to lose interest. I didn’t watch the premiere, and it wasn’t until a few episodes in that I checked it out (which isn’t that terrible: as of writing this there have only been five episodes aired). When I finally did, I was honestly surprised. I enjoy this show!
Powerless, as previously mentioned, is a show that is set in the DC Universe (no affiliation to the shows over on the CW), but does not follow superheroes. Instead, the show follows the employees of Wayne Security as they maneuver through life without powers. Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Alan Tudyk, and Danny Pudi, the cast is admirable. Unfortunately, I cannot remember any of the character’s names except for Teddy, who is played by Pudi and is definitely the stand out character of the show.
The show is a comedy, but I want tell you to get your hopes up. While they do land a joke every once in a while, for the most part the show is charming, but not that funny. My favorite part of the show is the freedom with which they can use the extended DC Universe. They constantly reference Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and many many more. There are even appearances from super obscure characters like Jack O’Lantern and Crimson Fox, which I find really cool. And while the humor doesn’t always land with me, I have so far enjoyed the general plots of the episode, particularly one in which Wayne Security tries to land a deal with Atlantis.
My absolute favorite thing about this show is something small and silly: the intro sequence. The sequence shows stills from comic pages of our favorite heroes saving the day, defeating the bad guys and just generally doing their thing. But these aren’t the heroes of this show: we quickly zooms into the background characters, implying that these bystanders are the cast. It’s humorous, it’s charming, and it’s cute. I adore the intro to this show, which I will link right here so everyone can see!
DC’s Powerless is on NBC on Thursday nights. While I don’t think this show is anything incredible, it does have its moments and I find it very endearing. I think everyone should at least give it a try; who knows, you might end up loving it!
Take it easy everyone,

I’m hoping that the show get’s a second season in order to get its legs. Similar to how Parks and Rec didn’t till season 2, and some could argue the American Version of the Office didn’t until its season 2 as well.

I’m not into it myself, although I only watched the pilot. Comedies can take some time to gel though so I’m willing to give it a second chance.
And I do agree the intro is awesome.
