Geeking In Indiana

Welcome to Indiana. Roll for intitiative.

You Don’t Have to Read It.

If I remember correctly, the timeline worked something like this: Tuesday night, a meme starts up on Facebook where people list bands. By Wednesday, a lot of people are doing it. By Thursday, I’m seeing maybe three band lists, and twenty posts complaining about band lists. By Thursday night, I’m saying not too nice of things to those people making fun of the lists. This is not an uncommon trend. It doesn’t matter what it is that people get excited about posting, there are people that seem to get even more joy crapping all over it. Be it band lists, unicorn drinks at Starbucks, or sharing Nickelback videos, people are going to post a stupid Batman slapping Robin picture about it, telling you to stop it.

You know, I’m sorry that it breaks up your feed full of stories about politics, or people ranting about how Kylo Ren’s scar has moved. I’m sorry that some of us feel the need to do something silly every once in a while. I’m sorry that…

Actually, no, wait, I’m not sorry.

I know there are much more learned people than I writing about this right now, and they will make much better points than I. Me? I’m just going to be blunt.

If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Keep scrolling. If it really bugs you, mute the person posting it. If it is really ruining your quality of life, stop following that person on social media. Most of us don’t even need to be on social media.

So, today is going to be short and simple. Remember, you don’t have to read something. You can just log off. You can just stop following someone. You can move on with your life.

Oh, and for the record? Here are my ten bands. Nine I have seen in concert, one I have not. You know the drill:

  • The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
  • Cypress Hill
  • Hole
  • Concrete Blonde
  • John Mellencamp
  • They Might Be Giants
  • “Weird Al” Yankovic
  • Barenaked Ladies
  • Noam Pikelny
  • The Shake Ups in Ponyville

See you Monday!

It’s a cute little way to break up the day. I’m seeing people do other versions too, like “beers I’ve had.”

Joke lists made me laugh and smile.
People crapping on it, complaining about how it floods their feed, and just being lousy?
      They make me grumpy.
